Etymology :

Description  :

Chia is an annual herb growing to 1 m (3.3 ft) tall, with opposite leaves 4-8 cm (1.6 to 3.1 inches) long and 5.3 cm (1.2 to 2, 0 inches) wide. Its flowers are purple or white and occur in groups of more than one peak at the end of each stem.Chia is resistant to USDA zones 9-12. Many crops such as SS is actually lavandulifolia hispanica.

Chia sprouts are used in the same manner as alfalfa sprouts in salads, sandwiches and other dishes. Chia sprouts are sometimes grown on porous clay figurines which has led to the icon of American popular culture of the Chia Pet.
