Anywhere is a 1999 American drama film. The film is based on the novel by Mona Simpson, the screenplay was written by Alvin Sargent and directed by Wayne Wang was produced by Laurence Mark, Petra Alexandria and Ginny Nugent. It stars Susan Sarandon and Natalie Portman.

The story, by Mona Simpson, has some similarities to Simpson's own youth as a young woman who moves from Wisconsin, west of California with her divorced mother, Joanne, although Simpson denies any literal. [Citation needed]

Filming began in late June 1998 and debuted at the Toronto Film Festival September 17, 1999 before being released on November 12.

Adele August (Susan Sarandon) is an eccentric woman who, with her daughter hesitates Ann (Natalie Portman), leaving a small town in Wisconsin and went to Beverly Hills for her dreams, even if it can not know what these dreams are self-itself. Adele is confused and always try to address the issues of the easy way. She buys things she can not afford, and his daughter is upset when she does. When you live in Beverly Hills, Adele improvises from day to day, are often unable to pay the bills. She wants her daughter to become an actress, but Ann is much more interested in starting at Brown University. After Adele fails in many ways, she accepts her daughter's plans and decides to help him.
