Eyewitnesses said it was his ex-wife and the two were involved in a custody dispute.
The alleged murderer was arrested a few blocks from the Meritage Room, the Pacific Coast Highway store was full of customers and stylists in the shooting.
One victim was apparently the owner of the salon, Randy Fannin said one parent.
"Randy is dead," said the niece of the owner, Tami Scarcella. "Randy is dead sure."
A middle-aged woman Anaheim, who identified himself as Cindy said she was sitting in the chair have their hair done by Fannin, when a man came in and started shooting.
"We thought maybe it was fireworks," she said. "But it just does not stop. Someone, he saw that he had shot."
"It was boom, boom, boom," she said, speaking outside the crime scene etched-off. "I was afraid he would kill them all."
The shooting of the evening left the normally placid seaside town struggling to make sense of the carnage. A police spokesman said the shooting had taken the city and its police forces in small uncharted territory.
Bowles said the scene was horrible. "There are victims all over the living room," he said.
Witnesses and survivors have been taken to both an apartment complex close to settle their nerves. Other costs outside the police lines in the neighborhood shopping center, tells what happened.
Marissa Pei said she had been to the gym earlier in the day with a friend before hitting out in his new shopping center. She sobbed.
"''My friend is dead. My friend is dead, "Pei said the woman told him. "I kept it."
Pei also said he spoke with someone who was married to a sedan.
"My baby. She is half of me, "Pei recalled him saying. "Dear God, do not let her be dead." "
Dion Martini and a manicure at the salon next door, said: "This is a shock to the whole community here We all worked together at one time or another.".
Martini has been busy with a customer herself when she heard sirens and helicopters and I knew something was wrong. When she heard a shooting took place in a room much like her, she struggled to contain his emotions.
"I had chills and had to hold back my tears," he said. "I can not imagine that anyone is sick of the van and do it to anyone."
Dr. James Blake, a dentist, was in his clerical 5th Street Bridge is a patient who hygienists cleaned the teeth of his other patients when he heard what he later learned was shot in the outdoor parking.
"Then there was a pause and a couple of more shots," said Blake, an interview with Times. "I did not see the shooter."
Alerted, Blake said his staff immediately closed the office door until police arrived.
The set of "Definitely was very unexpected" in Seal Beach, said Blake, who had his office in the mall since 1992.
"When you have someone who loses, you can be anywhere and not be sure," he said.
