Peter T. King (born April 5, 1944) is the U.S. representative in the third congressional district of New York, serving since 1993. And 'member of the Republican Party. The king chairs the House Homeland Security Committee and sits on the Select Committee on Intelligence. Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, the king has called attention to the radicalization of Muslim Americans against the hearings in early 2011 to discuss how the radicalization of young men and women in the U.S. caused by what he considers a serious threat to security national of the country.
King district includes parts of Nassau County and Suffolk County, all in the central part of Long Island.
Early Life, Education And Career :
King was born in Manhattan and grew up in Sunnyside, Queens, New York. His family has Irish roots back to County Galway and County Limerick. His father, Peter King, was a New York cop.
King graduated from St. Francis College in Brooklyn in 1965 and earned a Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 1968. After graduating from the Faculty of Law, he worked for Nassau County District Attorney Office until a Democrat was elected District Attorney Denis Dillon in 1974 (including the king, Dillon later became a staunch conservative Republican, and the process peace in Northern Ireland).
King served 69 Infantry Regiment and the New York National Guard from 1968 until he was received with honor in 1974.
Early Political Career :
Kong first time to public service in 1977, when he ran for City Council Hempstead in Hempstead, New York. In 1981, he successfully led the Comptroller of Nassau County. He was reelected successfully in 1985 and 1989. In 1990, King worked closely with the Muslim community in his Congressional District. King often gave speeches at the Islamic Center Westbury, held book signings in the prayer room, took the Muslim students and was one of the few Republicans who supported the U.S. intervention in 1990 to help Muslims in Bosnia and Kosovo. The Muslim community thanked the king for his work making him guest of honor for the opening of a room 1993 of 3 million of prayer. King opposes the closure of Guantanamo detention camp. He opposed the economic stimulus package of 2009 and the Law of Lillie Ledbetter Fair Pay in 2009. Voted for the bailout of Wall Street and was an opponent of illegal immigration.
Despite his disagreement with the past, George W. Bush King later became a supporter of Bush. On April 18 in 2011 continued its assault on Rep. King Eric Holder a letter to Attorney General answers to why the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), co-founder Omar Ahmad, and other unindicted co -conspirators in the Holy Land Foundation trial, would not be prosecuted by the Department of Justice. The king lives in Seaford, New York with his wife, Rosemary King, who has two adult children and one grandson son. The king has two brothers, Kevin and Barbara. He is the author of three novels is loosely based on his years in Congress: Terrible Beauty, Deliver Us from Evil, and the valley of tears.
