In 2010, James Shannon, president of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) reports that the fire protection and safety technology OSU is the "standard of quality in the profession." In 1943, Horace Bond, NFPA chief engineer, spent the summer with the program faculty FPST to study the effects of incendiary bombs during the war for his writings on the use of fire in the war. It was the end of this summer called the Oklahoma State University "West Point Fire Department", matching the program FPST fire department of the Military Academy at West Point is in the military. FPST Program is a 4-year training program, which concludes a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. FPST curriculum is designed to prepare graduates to assess and reduce risks of fire, security, chemical exposures, industrial hygiene, hazardous materials incidents, and much more.

Fire Protection and Safety Technology Department is in the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT). The program began in 1937 at OSU - Stillwater and is fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission Technology Accreditation Board for Engineering Technology (TAC / ABET), e-mail: acreditación@abet.org. The program was initially aimed at preparing youth for careers in the fire service in uniform. However, the demand for business and industry to control the loss of specialists led to the development of a program which emphasizes the industrial fire protection, safety, health, exposure to science and loss of control. The program is designed to introduce the student immediately to the school for fire protection and safety for students to gauge their interest in the field of fire protection and safety at the beginning of his academic career.

Fire Protection and Safety Technology Department of the five full-time faculty who teach not only for school, but often teach non-credit courses for continuing education CEAT. Students in the program have the opportunity to join various student organizations to expand their educational opportunities and experience. The program is also fortunate to have FPST International Fire Service Training Association / Fire Protection Publications (IFSTA / FPP), Oklahoma State Fire Training Service, and International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) at Oklahoma State University campus. IFSTA / FPP is the largest retailer in the world to fight fire training manuals.
